In 1981, French President François Mitterrand unveiled plans to build a new entrance to the Louvre Museum, commissioning I. M. Pei to create a modern structure that would complement the historic surroundings. The result was the glass pyramid, a bold statement of contemporary architecture at the heart of one of the world's most famous museums. Standing in the courtyard of the Louvre, the pyramid offers a striking contrast to the classical buildings that surround it.
When photographing the pyramid, my goal was to capture its jewel-like glow at twilight, a time of day that lends a magical quality to the structure. The soft twilight light enhances the transparency of the glass, allowing the pyramid to stand out while remaining in harmony with the historic architecture. The photograph highlights the dialogue between the old and the new, showing how the two can coexist in one of the most visited cultural landmarks.
The bold lines and symmetry of the image enhance the visual impact, leading the viewer's eye directly into the scene. The geometric patterns of the pyramid, combined with the surrounding classical architecture, create a striking visual balance that celebrates both tradition and modernity.
